SNOW Contemporary is pleased to present Yuriko Asano’s solo exhibition “Seedbed” from October 20 (Fri) to November 25 (Sat), 2023.

Yuriko Asano, born in Miyagi Prefecture, is an emerging young artist who has visited various places to learn about the local food culture and usage, tracing her own experiences and interactions with people she meets and creating colorful paintings as if recording what has been passed down in the local area.

Her work is not limited to mere botanical paintings but also includes an awareness of significant contemporary issues, such as the symbiosis of humans and nature and the cycle of life while focusing on the wisdom and knowledge that has long been passed down in the land.

In this exhibition, “Seedbed,” she focuses on the seeds contained in the pellets of birds (undigested food spit out from the mouth) she has recorded in the places she has visited. The exhibition will feature approximately 10 new paintings, centered on a large painting, “Seeds Coming and Going,” which depicts the cycle of life, with seeds carried unconsciously by living creatures and then sprouting and being passed on in the land where they have newly taken root.
